...about this website... This is just a test page at the very beginning, a sketch pad, as it were... At this time, this is the only test page that links to the other test pages for the family website. This is a rough sketch of an index page or home page, I guess the Family Home Page. Not much thought has been put into the text or setup of this; I have been more focused on getting pictures scanned and posted in an semi-organized way. To the extent that people would like it, eventually this will link to everyone's family websites... Genetics, marriage, remarriage, adoption, it all counts; why not?! All family members, however linked, are welcome to contribute pictures, pages, links, information, to the tree of pages. The more the merrier! Of course, this really should quickly move to a more conventional website set-up with more space, etc. ($!) At this time, the next step is to inject a few security features, such as password-required entry to the website and incription of data. At this time, you should see no last names on any of the test pages. (If you see any, please let me know. Please let me know if you have any comments about anything; we always strive to improve everything as much as reasonably possible. No fix/typo, etc is too small to comment/correct; glad to have them pointed out. The original idea was to just get started posting some of the great old family pictures that are available, and go from there. I think we should all try to digitize our great old pictures and post them. Please think of what great ones you have that would enhance this site; there are a lot out there, and they can be so cool. Always interesting to see what ancestors looked like, especially when they were younger then when you met them., etc. This is the tip of the iceberg... To start, pictures were scanned and just inserted into rough pages, with a little narration. I'm also trying to provide index pages for batches of photos, just to get more out there more quickly. I am noticing that the quality is not as good with that system as when the photos are inserted individually, so I'll try to insert some of the most amazing of those into the test pages with a little text. All pictures are welcome/encouraged if you think they are cool. (We may even be able to post videos if we play our cards right...! We would need a bigger website than this free one.) For this sketchbook, pages are being one by one, depending on what pictures are available at the time, and if they have been digizited or not... My vision is of a virtual tree, with nuclear families opening up as you scroll over someone's name. You should be able to zoom in on a branch or root. There must be software that does this. Will see what is free and good enough, and go from there. (People could add their own geneology pages by sketching and scanning or giving info or having their own geneology page from a good program or whatever...or perhaps pictures will suffice.) Regarding geneology, there are potential security issues that must be addressed in a general way on behalf of everyone, and in individual ways, depending on individual preferences/authorization and/or risk tolerance. This is just a test... The (now two) pictures on the top of the pages will be changed depending on who the page is based around. Perhaps the left side should be ancestor-oriented and the right one should be nuclear family oriented. Perhaps they should all be completely different. The list of names to the left is just a jumping off point. [This thing could have a family events page, a future vacation planning page, a news page, various messages, etc. (I think we could easily create/link to a private family blog page, if we wanted to.)] So...all family members, however linked, are welcome to contribute a page(s) (or to a page) or link(s) to the tree of pages, or whatever! The more the merrier! (Just contact us and we'll figure it out...) I have scanned a few pictures and will just start with those and see how it grows. All pictures are welcome if you would like me to post them. Makes it easier if you can scan them, but if you can't let me know... (We can post videos, but they have to be digital...of course. Some things would really be worth going to the trouble of digitizing...) That's all for now, folks...definitely a work in progress... Thanks for visiting! (Steve) (Oh...The following was cut and pasted to other pages; a test link to an index page for most the pictures of Jennie, Joe, Hilda and Edmund, as they are not really covered by the "Menu" to the left, so may as well put it here, too...)
(At this point, most of those are not on any other page, and that index has no direct link back to the rest of the website, so you have to click "return" to get back here...sorry...)style5">
